May 2024 - June 2024

June 2024-end of Month Report

Gender Transformative Approach (GTA) as a means to realise the Right to Development

On May 15th, 2024, a significant event took place via Zoom, co-hosted by the Women Federation World Peace International UN Geneva and in the framework of the United Nations Intergovernmental Working Group on the Right to Development session. The event focused on the implementation of the Gender Transformative Approach (GTA) as a means to realise the Right to Development. Experts, practitioners, governments, civil society, and youth engaged in discussions, all highlighting alternative approaches to the current polarisation between developing, developed regions. Maximum impact involves leading and listening with common concern, and prioritising local knowledge, especially women in designing, implementing and monitoring progress.

Youth Peace Conference in Beirut

We cannot discuss a nation's development, women's rights, and peace without involving its youth. I was thrilled to be part of the 4th edition of the Youth Peace Conference hosted in Beirut, Lebanon. The conference was organized by the Women’s Federation for World Peace International (WFWPI) UN Office Geneva in partnership with the Youth and Student’s Association for Peace, Lebanon, on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of June, 2024. The event included a one-day training followed by two days of youth-led debates on various topics related to the "role of women's development as a necessity for peace in the MENA region." The ideas and insights shared on these vital topics were outstanding, and very real, and after engaging in meaningful discussions, recommendations were adopted that will be reported at an event during the upcoming 56th Human Rights Council Sessions in Geneva. A thank you to Higher Educational Institutions in Beirut who also joined the discussions.

Fulfilling the Right to Education through International Cooperation - Side event

On June 18, there was an important moment at our HRC56 panel on "Fulfilling the Right to Education through International Cooperation," especially in Conflict Zones. The panel included a comment from the former Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women. The event was hosted by WFWPI, Soroptimist, and NGO CSW Geneva.

Women and Men Working Together for Gender Equality,

The 5th NGO CSW Geneva Ambassador's Breakfast Briefing occurred at the Vieux Bois Restaurant on June 12. The event focused on "Women and Men Working Together for Gender Equality," with informal discussions on preparations for the Beijing +30 recommendations on the Education and Training of Women.
