Celebrating Women’s Leadership: Highlights from the International Women’s Day EventOn March

17, 2025, the Centre for Kurdish Progress and the UK Women's Federation for World Peace held an important event in Committee Room 5 of the House of Commons, hosted by Siobhan McDoughan

MP. Over 70 participants gathered to honor International Women’s Day, focusing on women's

leadership in education, their essential roles in peacebuilding, and the transformative impact of equal access to education. The panel featured prominent speakers, including Mitty Tohma, President of the UK Women's Federation for World Peace; Professor Shabnam Dalfani, a UN Senior Associate and Global Women's Peace Ambassador; Dr. Christina Schariff from King’s College London; and Dr. Shilan Fuad, Associate Editor for Brill & Routledge. The discussion was expertly moderated by Muida Ameen, a doctoral student at UCL's Institute of Education. Key themes included the necessity of feminist advocacy in changing political climates, with panelists urging that women's voices remain vital. They emphasized grassroots mobilization and social media as powerful tools for change.Speakers highlighted the role of women educators as vital role models, calling for policies that enhance women’s leadership in education. The discussion also tackled barriers women face in

diplomacy, advocating for reforms to improve representation in leadership roles.The event concluded with an open discussion, connecting participants with the panelists and reinforcing the importance of women in creating a more equitable future through education and collaboration.
