POETRY, SONG AND FREEDOM: VOICES FROM CONTEMPORARY IRAN, this is the
theme of the conference that took place on March 13th at the Sala S. Michele of the Basilica
of S. Pancrazio in Rome (Villa Pamphili) organized by the association GIOVANE
MONTAGNA founded by Piergiorgio Frassati. President Elisabetta Nistri was invited by
Giuliana Egidi to give her contribution on the theme WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY, and
to present the WFWP and its activities.
The meeting was skillfully conducted by Giuliana Egidi who gave voice to the many Iranian
and Afghan women who courageously are fighting and have fought in the past for their
rights. The event became even more evocative at the time of the reading of the poems
masterfully interpreted by Annalisa Serrano and Stefania Giacalone. Elisabetta Nistri brought
attention not only to rights but also to the values that women bring with them especially as a
contribution to peace, referring to UN resolution 1325 which was signed by many countries
and states, proclaiming that women must be protected during conflicts, rape cannot be used
as a weapon of war, and moreover, in conflict resolution, the presence of women in peace
treaties must be encouraged because this brings more results for lasting peace.
The president's appeal was then towards the contribution that every woman can make by
appealing to the maternal nature and the peculiar feminine characteristics. She also dwelt on
the upcoming appointments and some already held on the themes of interreligious dialogue,
Youth and Artificial Intelligence, He and Her understood as a harmonious couple
relationship.
The meeting aroused a lot of interest among all the participants.
