WFWP Netherlands, Int’l Women’s Day Celebrations

8 Mar 2014:Ladies of WFWP Netherlands attended different Women’s Day Events in Amsterdam and Utrecht. One of the presentations given was by the Minister for Foreign Trade and Developmental Cooperation Mrs. Lilianne Ploumen. Her speech was entitled ‘I have a dream’.She spoke about how to handle our opponents, and emphasised the importance of going into dialogue with them, to look for a connection and the points we have in common. This takes courage and confidence in our deepest conviction. She mentioned several heroines as examples - Nice Nailantei, who resisted sexual mutilation from the Masai or Leymah Gbowee from Liberia, Tawakul Karman of Jemen and Sheena Hadi van Aahung in Pakistan. As the Minister she is planning to make a donation of 5 million Euro and substantially contribute to the cause of elimination of child marriages.Overall, the events attended were very inspirational with many wonderful speakers and workshops offered, and provided a fantastic opportunity to learn, find inspiration, make new connections and strengthen the bonds with existing friends and supporters.
